Aayenda (which means “future” in dari) is a gorgeous fair-trade jewellery brand, on a mission to support the livelihoods of thousands of artisans in Afghanistan, particularly women. The brand was launched in 2013 as a social enterprise by Future Brilliance, a not-for-profit organisation. The beautiful and unique collections developed by Aayenda today are a result of collaborations with award-winning international designers Anna Ruth Henriques, Paul Spurgeon, and Annie Fensterstock. Thanks to these stunning, one-of-a-kind designs and trinkets developed by the cooperative, Aayenda has grown from strength to strength, and now provides work for 1200 artisans, including 300 Afghan war widows. The huge success of the brand has even enabled Aayenda to open a workshop for bead-makers and gem-faceters in the Balkh Province of Afghanistan, owned entirely by the women who work there. So go on - buy something beautiful – do a little good!
