Kantha Sari Scarf

Our one-of-a-kind silk scarves are handmade from upcycled & vintage saris in a mix of ikat weaves and floral, tribal and graphic prints. We have one of the finest and largest collections of fair-trade, silk kantha scarves available!

Our signature scarves are made using two layers of separate sari fabric, each painstakingly handpicked for their fabulous colours and designs, quality checked and paired piece-by-piece in complementary or contrasting colours. These layers are stitched together in the style of Indian kantha, in which women hand sew rows of tiny running stitch from end to end to provide strength and enable the recycling of saris. This kantha creates a rich, rippling effect across the fabric and adds a unique texture to the products.

Each artisan embroiders her name in Bengali in the corner of the scarf she has stitched, just as an artist will sign their work*. We hope this will remind you of the long journey your scarf has taken to reach you and the positive impact your purchase is making on the artisan and her family!

Each piece is unique - you will never see the same combination of fabrics and threads twice. And our kantha is of the highest quality, stitched by women whose families have been sewing kantha for generations in the kantha heartland: West Bengal. We offer three sizes of scarves: shawl, scarf and square. Any variations or irregularities are part of the design and inherent to the production process.

*Kantha Sari Squares do not have their artisan’s name embroidered in the corner due to the nature of the edging of the scarf.
